A Message from the Mayor
 |
As 2007 kicks off, the City of El Segundo is poised for another great year.
On the heels of winning the first-ever Eddy Award from the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation as the most business friendly city in Los Angeles County, we refuse to rest on our laurels.
Our commitment remains steadfast: To be personally accessible, quick to respond, and fully aware of what businesses need in order to thrive.
Already home to 85,000 employees and more Fortune 500 firms than any other city in California except San Francisco, we're proud to welcome some notable newcomers, including Tesco, Plaza El Segundo and Teledyne Technologies, Inc.
We also heartily congratulate El Segundo-based commercial real estate leader CB Richard Ellis with its recent acquisition of Trammell Crow merger that will provide even more commercial opportunities in our burgeoning community.
Many of the world's most prominent corporations have chosen El Segundo as their base of operations.
Find out why by visiting our website at www.elsegundobusiness.com.
Meanwhile, we welcome you to our city and encourage you to stop by our offices any time.
Sincerely,
Mayor Kelly McDowell

A Banner Period for El Segundo
 |
If you're driving along Sepulveda Boulevard between Rosecrans Avenue and Imperial Highway over the next few months, keep an eye out for a series of banners promoting the City of El Segundo's upcoming 90th anniversary and its recent award as "the most business friendly city in Los Angeles County."
While you're in the area, stop in for lunch or for a chat with our economic development director.
A number of choice office spots are available in town at rates that compare very favorably to West LA and other commercial hotspots.

Tesco Makes El Segundo Base for U.S. Market
 |
One of the world's largest retail chains, the UK-based Tesco, officially opened its U.S. headquarters in El Segundo last month, adding to the city's impressive corporate resume.
Tesco announced plans to establish a number of upscale grocery stores on the West Coast, including a site in El Segundo and elsewhere in Los Angeles County.
The company may add as many as 2,500 jobs to El Segundo's already thriving economy.

Douglas Project Will Ease Traffic, Promote Development
 |
Thanks to transportation grant funding secured by the City of El Segundo, the long-awaited Douglas Street gap closure project will be completed this year.
Crews will construct 1,100 feet of new four-lane roadways via an underpass under the railroad and Green Line to connect the two dead ends of Douglas Street between Park Place and Alaska Avenue.
This project, along with the long-awaited conversion of Nash and Douglas streets to two-way thoroughfares, will help alleviate traffic flow in the busy Rosecrans Corridor and provide new development and job opportunities for the entire region.
