El Segundo Wins
Most Business Friendly City Award

El Segundo is the "most business-friendly city in Los Angeles County", says the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation.

On October 5, the South Bay municipality became the first-ever recipient of a prestigious Eddy Award recognizing individual communities for fostering regional economic growth by helping businesses thrive. In garnering the honor, El Segundo outlasted four high-profile finalists (Burbank, Lancaster, Long Beach and Santa Clarita) chosen amongst a pool of applicants from the county's 88 cities.

Here's the video about El Segundo shown during the awards ceremony.

Here's a news article as well.

LAEDC President Weighs in on El Segundo

How is a community of only 16,500 residents and just five square miles deemed more business friendly than much larger cities?

According to LAEDC President Bill Allen, El Segundo offers a total package that impressed the blue ribbon panel of contest judges. Among the areas that resonated most: El Segundo's speedy permit and plan check process, competitive tax rates, business tax credits, economic development strategies, and customer service outreach programs.

"Through its public/private partnership, El Segundo has built a thriving economy while preserving a quality of life that attracts a highly educated workforce," Allen said. "This is a city that really gets it and every city in the county can learn from El Segundo."

Global Business Leaders Endorse El Segundo

According to the judges, El Segundo's winning application also included the highest number and quality of testimonials of any of the finalists for the Eddy Award. The City's submittal included glowing endorsement letters from a veritable who's who of global corporate giants.

Among those who vouched for El Segundo's business-friendly environment were The U.S. Air Force, China Airlines, Chevron, Mattel, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and Computer Sciences Corporation, among others.

How El Segundo is Friendly to Your Business

In addition to its ideal location only minutes from the international gateway of LAX, major freeways and the beach, not to mention a thriving and diverse economic base that has attracted more Fortune 500 firms than any other city in the county, El Segundo can offer so much more for your business, including:

- A proactive, accessible and highly responsive city government and staff

- 24-hour average turnaround time for issuing business licenses

- Same-day permit approval

- Utility user and transient occupancy tax rates significantly lower than those of Los Angeles and Long Beach

- No property or parking taxes

- Up to 100 percent business tax credits for qualifying companies. Find out how.
